GF54.00-P-0004A Data Bus System Function

A data bus connects the individual control units and enables them to exchange data.

The signal from a sensor is passed on to the nearest control unit, processed by it and placed on the CAN data bus.

Each control unit that is connected to the CAN data bus can read this signal and use it to calculate an input to control an actuator.

Normal wake-up

Because the transmission and reception diodes along with the digital data bus (D2B) system chip are automatically switched off when not required (sleep
mode), at the start of a new data transfer a wake-up pulse is required to activate the system. This is accomplished via the separate wake-up line. To this
end, the master unit actuates a wake- up signal (electrical signal), which reduces the voltage in the wake- up line to a defined value. The digital data bus
(D2B) system's chip in the components recognizes that the signal is a wake-up one based on the duration of the signal, and the digital data bus (D2B) is
activated. The digital data bus (D2B) is then in activated status. A "wake-up" can take place in a deactivated system (sleep mode) even without a
wake-up pulse from the master unit through activation of a component installed in the digital data bus (D2B).

Wake-up diagnosis

For the purpose of diagnosing the wake-up circuit in the components, the master unit can be induced using STAR DIAGNOSIS via the data link
connector (X11/4) to actuate a wake-up diagnosis signal. This signal differs from the wake-up signal due to its distinctly greater duration. For their part,
the components respond to this long wake-up pulse with a signal on the wake-up line (message to the master unit). This enables the master unit to
recognize which components have received the long wake-up pulse. The diagnosis wake-up signal can only be actuated, if the digital data bus (D2B) is
unable to be activated because of a fault. If all components answer the master unit, the voltage supply is correct.
