Rear entertainment TV reception, general

The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) (A90/1) (with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner) or the TV tuner integrated into the COMAND controller
unit (with code (529) HIGH Class Japan) provides all playback options that are known from the predecessors model series. The interface is generated by
the DVD player (A40/4) in the "TV" menu and shown on the screen of the left rear display (A40/5) or the right rear display (A40/6).

The TV application and the associated settings (brightness, contrast, and color) can be called up and modified using the following controls on the RCP
[HBF] control unit (N72/2):

Left "Back" button (N72/2s7)

Rear rotary pushbutton (N72/2s8)

The signals of the controls of the RCP [HBF] control unit listed here are read in by the RCP [HBF] control unit and transmitted via telematics CAN to
the DVD player. The additional settings via the corresponding buttons on the rear display are also transmitted via telematics CAN to the DVD player.

When the left rear display is switched on, the TV application can only be run on the left rear display.
When the right rear display is switched on, the TV application can only be run on the right rear display.

When the left rear display and right rear display are switched on, the TV application can be run on both rear displays. It is only necessary to select the
respective display using the left screen button or the right screen button when the TV application is operated via the RCP [HBF] control unit.

The rear entertainment TV reception function comprises the following subfunctions:

The TV channel is selected using the COMAND controller unit and the front central operating unit (A40/9).
The screen button is used to activate the menu on the screen of the rear display. With the help of the front central operating unit, the user selects the
"TV" menu and then the preferred TV channel via the COMAND display (A40/8).

The TV combination tuner or the TV tuner integrated into the COMAND controller unit receives the TV signals from TV antennas 1 to 4 in the rear
window as follows:

The front central operating unit transmits the control signals over the telematics CAN to the COMAND controller unit. The COMAND controller unit
evaluates these, generates the picture signals for the interface on the COMAND display and transmits them via a low voltage differential signaling
(LVDS) line to the COMAND display. Additionally, the COMAND controller unit in vehicles with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner transmits the
control signals of the front central operating unit via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the TV combination tuner.

In vehicles with code (529) HIGH Class Japan, the front central operating unit transmits the control signals directly to the TV tuner integrated into the
COMAND controller unit.

The TV combination tuner or the TV tuner integrated into the COMAND controller unit then transmits the signals of the received and selected TV
channel via a direct line to the COMAND controller unit, and it also transmits the analog audio signals via a stereo line and the analog picture signals via
a Y - brightness (luminance)/C - color information (chrominance) (Y/C) line to the DVD player.
