Removing and Installing Oil Pan

Removing and Installing

Preceding Work:

Air cleaner removed.  Refer to "Powertrain Management : Fuel Delivery and Air Induction : Air Cleaner Housing"  See: Tune-up and
Engine Performance Checks/Air Cleaner Housing

Dipstick guide tube removed. See Step 23. 

Vibration damper removed. Refer to: "Engine : Cylinder Block Assembly : Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley"  See: Cylinder Block

Tensioning device removed. Refer to: "Engine : Drive Belt : Drive Belt Tensioner"  See: Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive
Belt Tensioner

1. Raise hood to vertical position. Refer to "Doors, Hood and Trunk : Hood"   See: Body and Frame/Doors, Hood and Trunk/Hood

2. Disconnect ground cable at battery.

3. Remove air scoops.   Refer to "Powertrain Management : Fuel Delivery and Air Induction : Air Cleaner Housing"  See: Tune-up and

Engine Performance Checks/Air Cleaner Housing

4. Remove viscous fan clutch. Refer to "Cooling System : Cooling Fan, Radiator : Fan Clutch"  See: Cooling System/Radiator Cooling Fan/Fan

Clutch

5. Slacken bolts (2) and (4) of fan carrier belt pulley; to do this, counter-hold with counter-holder 603 589 00 40 00. Refer to "Engine, Engine

6. Remove poly V-belt tensioning device. Refer to "Engine : Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories : Drive Belt Tensioner : Service

7. Unbolt belt pulley - fan carrier.

8. Rotate engine until cylinder 1 is at TDC.

9. Unscrew bolts and remove bottom engine compartment panel.

10. Drain engine oil (approx. 8 liters) into a suitable container. Replace drain plug seal. The tightening torque of oil drain plug is 40 Nm.

11. Unscrew bolts together with circlip, take off belt pulley and vibration damper. Refer to: "Engine : Cylinder Block Assembly : Harmonic

12. Unscrew bolts (1) together with washers, take off carrier together with guide pulley.
