Idler Arm: Service and Repair

NOTE:  Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

REMOVAL

1. Detach track rod (10) at steering idler arm (26)
2. Detach drag link (11) at steering idler arm (26)
3. Remove heat shield (269)
4. Unscrew nut (26b), remove washer (26e)

Withdraw screw (26a) and remove steering idler arm 

5. Lift sealing lip at the slide bushing (26f) using a screwdriver and remove slide bushing from rubber mount
6. Withdraw plain rubber mount (26f) using puller (061) tool No. 129 589 00 33 00, or equivalent

INSTALLATION

-

Install in reverse order, replace all self locking nuts

-

Pull in plain rubber mount up to the stop using pulling-in tool (062) No. 115 589 08 61 00, or equivalent

-

Tighten self locking nut of steering idler arm on bearing bracket of frame longitudinal member to: 180 Nm
