Disassembly/Assembly of Multiple-Disc Brake B1

DISASSEMBLY

1. Remove snap ring (6h)
2. Remove multiple-disc pack (69) and disc

Check multiple-discs for burnt spots and

3. Place assembly device (073) tool No. 140 589 13 43 00, or equivalent, on disc spring (6d) and tension until the snap ring (6e) is exposed
4. Remove snap ring (6e)
5. Remove piston (6c) from the outer multiple-disc carrier by carefully blowing compressed air into the bore (A)

ASSEMBLY

1. Install piston (6c) in outer multiple disc carrier

Check vulcanized gasket, replace if necessary

-

Press in piston using the disc spring (6d) and assembly device (073).

2. Insert disc spring (6d)

-

Insert disc spring with the curvature towards the multiple-disc pack

3. Place assembly device (073) on disc spring (6d) and tension until the groove of the snap ring is exposed
4. Insert snap ring (6e)

-

The collar of the snap ring must point towards the multiple-disc pack

-

After installing, check snap ring for correct seat

5. Insert disc spring (6f) and multiple-disc pack (69), then the snap ring (6h) in the outer multiple-disc carrier and measure as follows:

a. Refer to Survey of multiply-disc components to locate correct number of discs for this application. See: Application and ID
b. Observe outer multiple-disc sequence of installation, then procedures as follows:

c. Place discs for multiple-disc brake B1 together in the sequence shown in the illustration above
d. Using a feeler gauge, determine the play "L" at three points between the snap ring (90) and the outer disc (89c)

During the measurement the snap ring (90) must contact the upper bearing surface of the groove in the disc carrier
