A GSM (global system for mobile communication) is required for transmitting a TELE AID emergency call telegram (TELE AID emergency call or
telediagnosis), for completing a voice connection or for simply making a phone call.

For normal telephone calls it is the CTEL antenna (A2/22). This antenna can be damaged in the case of an accident (e.g. rollover). The antenna could
also have another defect. TELE AID emergency call/telediagnosis is no longer possible then. To ensure that this never occurs, the TELE AID backup
antenna (A2/50) is installed in addition to the CTEL antenna (A2/22). This is installed at a location which is largely protected against crash ahead of the
roll bar, and is used only if required. For this purpose the telephone transmitter/receiver and TELE AID, D2B (A35/17) has two GMS antenna inputs to
which the corresponding active antenna is switched through to the telephone transmitter/receiver unit.

NOTE:  The telephone transmitter/receiver unit is integrated in the telephone transmitter/receiver and TELE AID, D2B (A35/17).

As long as no emergency call is triggered the CTEL antenna (A2/22) is always active. In the event of an emergency call the CTEL and TELE AID
transmitter/receiver, D2B (A35/17) checks the signal level of the CTEL antenna (A2/22). If it is not sufficient it checks the level of the TELE AID
substitute antenna (A2/50) The antenna with the higher signal level is used for radio connection (see structogram).

The abbreviation PIN means Personal Identification Number. The PIN is a 4-digit code which acts as a password for telephoning with the telephone
system. It must be entered by the user after switching on the telephone system (entry is optional in the case of the D1 network).

Since it is not possible to enter the PIN manually when making a TELE AID emergency call, particular measures have been taken in order to automate
this process:
The user can store the PIN number in the CTEL and TELE AID transmitter/receiver, D2B (A35/17) using the handset.

In the event of an accident (signal from restraint systems control module) the CTEL and TELE AID transmitter/receiver, D2B (A35/17) accesses the
stored PIN.

This is the same as manual entry of the PIN and automatically activates the telephone system to allow an emergency call to be placed over the mobile
phone system.

The PIN can be changed at any time using the handset, or erased in the EPROM of the CTEL and TELE AID transmitter/receiver, D2B (A35/17).

NOTE:  Do not forget that it is not possible to place a TELE AID emergency call if the PIN has been erased or not stored. As a signal, the indicator
lamp in the TELE AID pushbutton switch (S93/3) then lights up. In such a case, "only" a call to the emergency services (without emergency call
message) is placed, as appropriate.

The CTEL and TELE AID transmitter/receiver, D2B (A35/17) receives the following message from the restraint systems control module (N2/7):
B1:  Ready
