Starter Motor: Service and Repair

Remove Starter, Install

DANGER:
-

Risk of explosion from hydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injure to eyes
and skin suffering caustic burns from battery electrolyte or from contact with damaged lead add batteries.

No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.

-

Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked container

Disconnect ground line of battery

CAUTION:  Do not connect a quiescent current retention unit in order to avoid a short-circuit

Remove engine compartment paneling

Unscrew bolts (1) at bracket of hydraulic line

Press off clamp (2) (in direction of arrow)     

5.1 Remove the right engine mount

NOTE:
-

Remove the screws on the engine mount, lift the engine lightly and put the engine mount on the side.

-

The engine mount cannot be removedfully or else the exhaust system will have to be removed.

Unscrew nut (3) 

NOTE:  Disconnect electrical line for circuit 50 (4) and electrical line for circuit 30 (5)

-

Nut of connection of circuit 30: 14 N.m

-

Nut of connection circuit 50: 6 N.m

Unscrew screws (6)

Bolt of starter to crankcase:
-

40 N.m (Engine 113.963, 992 for Model 230, Engine 113.990, 991)

-

42 N.m (Engine 112, 113.94/96/98)

Take starter (M1) down and out

Install in the reverse order

Render electrical system operational

Carry out function check
