Component Identification
General information
The multifunction steering wheel serves to increase active driving safety in road traffic in combination with the instrument cluster (A1).
This allows the driver to concentrate on the traffic without distraction when controlling and operating various vehicle components (for example: radio,
telephone).
The multifunction steering wheel allows the driver to control and check the following systems (depending on equipment) without removing the hands
from the steering wheel:

Audio

Navigation
^
Distronic
^
Fault and warning messages
^
Settings (instrument cluster, illumination, vehicle, heater, comfort features)
^
Trip computer
^
Tele Aid
^
Telephone
The display of the main system selected by the user appears in the left multifunction display (A1p13) and the right multifunction display (A1p15) of the
instrument cluster (A1).
The left fanfare horn (H2) and the right fanfare horn (H2/1) can also be operated via the steering wheel impact plate.
Keypad
Each of the systems can be called with the system selection button (S110s3). It is possible to "scroll" forward and backward in the systems.
It is possible to "scroll" in a system with the scroll forward/back button (S110s1), i.e. additional submenus can be called up.
With the buttons:

It is possible to accept (answer) or terminate (hang up) a call using the accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3).

The volume of a currently active system can be changed using the + and - buttons for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1).
Moreover, for example, it is possible to increase (+) or reduce (-) the system settings for the OFF delay for interior lighting with the + or - buttons.
The control signals are transmitted from the steering wheel keypad via the fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact (A45) to the control unit in the
steering column module (N80).
The signals are transmitted from the steering column module (N80) via the vehicle's own bus system (interior/CAN) to the instrument cluster (A1).
