Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Adjustments
NOTE: The center position of the contact spiral is essential for the satisfactory function of the airbag and signalling system. This is ensured by the
fixing bolts when dismantled.
However, if the contact spiral was twisted, e.g.
-
when the steering coupling was removed,
-
if the fixing bolts were unscrewed completely,
the center position is to be determined as follows:
Component Identification, Part 2
1
Remove contact spiral.
2
Screw fixing bolts (32h) right into the contact spiral.
3
Turn contact spiral anti-clockwise until slight resistance is detectable (the contact spiral is rolled up completely).
4
Turn contact spiral approx. 2 - 2.5 revolutions clockwise (turn back) until the fixing bolts (32h) can be unscrewed again through the openings then
fix the contact spiral
NOTE: The total range of rotation of the contact spiral is approx. 5 - 6 revolutions.
