Tie Rod End: Service and Repair

AR46.40-P-0200A Remove/Install Track Rod

NOTE:  Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

REMOVAL

1. Unscrew nut (10h) of track rod (10)
2. Steady ball pivot with Allen wrench, if necessary.

3. Using assembled thrust piece (051) tool No. 129 589 63 00 and puller (050) tool No. 124 589 03 33 00, or equivalents, press off track rod (10)

using puller (050)

4. Check joints for play and damaged rubber boots.

Replace track rod, if necessary

INSTALLATION 

NOTE:

Comply with installed position (tapered connection with lock nut towards steering knuckle arm)

Clean grease off tapers and press ball joints of the track rod securely into the steering arm.

Install in reverse order, noting the following:

Replace self-locking nuts

Check and adjust toe-in

Tighten as follows:
-

Self-locking nut of track rod on steering arm to: 50 Nm

-

Self-locking nut of track rod on steering knuckle to: 50 Nm
