Suspension - Knocking Noise From Rear Of Vehicle

All Model 129 Vehicles, as of Series Production 9/1/1995 up to 12/1/1996 Equipped with Adaptive Damping System (ADS II) with Electronic Level
Control (Sales Code 216c)

Knocking Noise from the Rear Axle Area

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of a knocking noise from the rear axle area while in suspension control mode, replace
the high pressure expansion hose.

Note:

On vehicles with valve unit (Y36/6) and residual pressure retaining valve part number A129 327 19 25, knocking noises can occur from the
rear axle level control when driving over uneven ground in individual cases.

1.

Detach guard plate / trim panel.

2.

Drain pressure oil system on rear axle, refer to WIS document AR32.31-P-0630A.

3.

Install new version of high pressure expansion hose. Reference the following torque values

BA32.31-P-1001-06A level control pressure line to valve unit M10x1 Nm 14 or M12x1 Nm 20 

^

BA32.31-P-1002-06A bolt for attaching valve unit to bracket Nm 10

Note:

As of 12/96 the revised high pressure hose is installed in series production vehicles.

4.

Fill pressure oil system on rear axle, refer to WIS document AR32.31-P-0630A.

5.

Ensure no leaks exist from hydraulic system.
