Controlling CD player

The CD player with changer (A2/6) is actuated via the digital data bus (D2B) and an electrical wake-up line, depending on the vehicle equipment, for
example Radio (A2) or by the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3).

The CD player with changer (A2/6) generates messages on the following operating states:

No magazine in CD changer

^

Magazine occupation (music CDs only)

^

Number of current CD

^

Number of current title

^

List of occupied slots (CDs)

^

Number of titles per disc

^

Current operating state (acoustic reproduction of radio signals, pause, etc.)

The messages are sent to the digital data bus (D2B) and interpreted by the radio (A2) or COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3).

Control options for CD changer via COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3):

Forwards and reverse

CD playback

The audio data is stored digitally on the CD. The audio CD in the CD player is driven by a motor. An optical laser system scans the unlabeled side of the
rotating CD without contact and converts the digital signals into electrical signals.
Any missing points resulting from scratches or contamination on the audio CD are later interpolated by a DA converter and thereby compensated.
The electrical signals are then decoded in the CD changer and transmitted via the digital data bus (D2B) to the COMAND operating, display and control
module COMAND (A40/3) or radio (A2) depending on the vehicle equipment where they are processed to audio signals and output to the speakers or,
when a sound amplifier (A2/13) (code 810) is installed to the loudspeakers.

Jumps and interruptions during playback

When driving on poor roads and during hefty vibrations it may be that jumps and interruptions occur during playback. In such cases CD playback should
be put on hold until the condition of the road improves.
In the wet or where ambient temperatures fluctuate wildly the CD changer housing may experience a build up in its humidity level (condensation
formation).
This may also lead to faults occurring during playback. In such cases, provide for sufficient ventilation of the CD player and rear compartment.
