Emergency Call, general

Emergency-Call (E-Call) is an automatic emergency call system which uses the availability of new technologies, such as vehicle locating via satellite and
telephone to minimize the consequences of accidents.
Emergency calls and precise location description are made possible by E-call and therefore not dependent on incorrect human behavior in stress
situations.

Function sequence

An E-CALL emergency call can be triggered automatically or manually. The following actuation procedures should be distinguished:

Automatically,

by the control unit for the restraint system (N2/7)

or
-

by the rollover sensor integrated in the emergency call system control unit (EMERGENCY CALL, A35/8).

Manual,
by pressing the emergency call system pushbutton switch (EMERGENCY CALL, S93/3).

Once an alarm has been triggered, the emergency call system control unit (EMERGENCY CALL, A35/8) compiles an emergency call telegram, which
contains information on the severity of the accident, identification of the vehicle, vehicle positioning and the type of alarm issued. The emergency call
telegram is transmitted via the vehicle phone equipment.

In the event of a defective telephone antenna a switch is made automatically to the EMERGENCY CALL backup antenna (A2/50).
