Risk of explosion from welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning from inhaling overheated
refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury from skin and eye contact with liquid refrigerant.

Do not carry out any welding work on the closed air conditioning system or in the surrounding area. No smoking or open flames. Wear
eye protection and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas.

Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been discharged.
CAUTION: Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work.

Discharge air conditioning system
NOTE: Recycle refrigerant and jot down quantity of compressor oil extracted.

Remove instrument panel

Remove jacket tube module

Drain coolant

Remove expansion valve

Detach electrical connector (4) for Keyless Go at air duct (2)

Remove air duct (2) at evaporator housing
8
Remove tie strap (1) at supporting tube
9
Unclip electrical connector (3) at steering-column tube (8)
10
Remove reinforcement brace (5) at jacket tube (8)

Bolt for reinforcement brace of jacket tube to body: 20 N.m

Detach electrical connectors (6) of engine group's steering-column adjustment

Detach electrical connectors (7) on control module for Active Body Control

Detach electrical connector on temperature sensor (B10/6)
14
Unscrew jacket tube (8) and lower

Lower bolt, jacket tube to body: 20 N.m

Upper bolt, jacket tube to body: 20 N.m

Remove insulation mat in front of evaporator housing and unclip fiber optic cable clip
NOTE: Do not damage fiber optic cable.

Remove insulation mat on front passenger side

Detach electrical connectors on front passenger side airbag

Detach electrical connector on blower motor (A32m1)

Remove nuts (9) on evaporator housing

Nut, evaporator housing to crossmember: 8 N.m
20
Dismantle crossmember (10) and remove
