Risk of explosion from electrolytic gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury with
caustic burns to eyes and skin from battery electrolyte or from handling damaged lead-acid batteries

No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and eye protection. Pour battery electrolyte only into
suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Disconnect ground cables from batteries

NOTE:  First the on-board electrical system battery in the trunk and then the starter battery in the engine compartment.

Remove right air inlet

NOTE:  Remove air inlet housing complete.

Remove front passenger-side SAM control module (N10/11) with right front passenger-side fuse and relay module (K40/4)

Unscrew bolts (1) and remove top section of housing from front passenger-side fuse box (F1/1)

Expose wiring harnesses

NOTE:  Observe and label installed position.

Remove paneling (2) in interior on right side

Unscrew bolt and remove lower A-pillar paneling on right side

Remove cover below instrument panel (right).

Free floor covering on front passenger's side until the footrest is accessible, and remove footrest

Remove bass speaker

NOTE:  On vehicles with CODE (810) Sound system.

Open cover (3) and unscrew electrical cable (positive lead) (4) from front prefuse box (F32)

Expose remaining wiring harnesses and pass them through the front passenger-side fuse box (F1/1)

NOTE:  On vehicles with CODE (219) Distronic or with CODE (220) Stationary heater, the cables must be exposed as far as the component and
passed through the front passenger-side fuse box into the interior.

Unscrew nuts (5) and remove front passenger-side fuse box (F1/1)

Install in the reverse order

Carry out function check
