Component Identification

1

Clean area around oil filler screw (50g).

Only carry out the oil level check at interior temperature and not on a rear axle center assembly which is at operating temperature. Otherwise,
when the rear axle differential is at operating temperature, required oil could escape.

2

Remove oil filler screw (50g)

Replace oil filler screw (50g).

3

If necessary collect oil running out and allow to run out until oil only drips out of opening.

Shown on rear axle differential dia. 198 mm

4

Check oil level.

When the oil level is correct, the oil reaches the lower edge of the oil filler hole, refill if necessary.

The fully synthetic oil can also be used without reservations on rear axle center assemblies which have been produced before 4.11.2001. Mixing
old universal hypoid gear oil and new FE hypoid gear oil does not impair the basic functions such as wear characteristics, leaktightness, etc. at the
rear axle differential, but should, however, be avoided in the interest of better fuel economy.
