Component Identification

The COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) is the central component of the COMAND system. It has a 5" color LCD display with
graphic and video capability. The operating menus, map data for navigation and the television picture are broadcast here. Operation takes place via
function keys and two rotary encoders as well as menu-assisted on the display.
Some functions can be activated using the buttons at the multifunction steering wheel. It should be noted that all pushbutton operations on the
multifunction steering wheel are first processed by the instrument cluster (A1). The instrument cluster (A1) links the incoming pushbutton operations
with the current menu setting in the multifunction display and, where applicable, it then transmits a corresponding CAN message to the COMAND
operating, display and controller unit (A40/3).

COMAND bus system

The digital components of COMAND are networked with one another by means of the digital data bus (D2B) and an electric wake-up signal. The data
(control commands and useful information) is transmitted between the various system components via the digital data bus (D2B).
