In the event of a service call (MB-Info or roadside assistance calls), all telephone connections currently active are interrupted. The emergency call
system control unit (N123/4) sends an SMS to the nearest service call center and then always establishes a telephone connection to the service center.

Normally, the telephone connections are established via the telephone antenna (A2/22). If the standard telephone antenna should happen to malfunction
(A2/22), such as due to the a vehicle rollover, there is also a TELE AID backup antenna located in the area of the rear shelf (A2/50). The emergency call
system control unit (N123/4) detects the failure of the telephone antenna and then automatically actuates the TELE AID backup antenna (A2/50).

After an EMERGENCY CALL is received by the central services (police, fire department etc.), a radio connection is set up with the vehicle in order to
be able to question the occupants or persons involved. This allows rescue measures to be started depending on the actual severity of the accident.
The radio traffic between the vehicle and the responsible rescue center is accomplished via the vehicle phone system.

This takes place over the telephone antenna (A2/22) and the telephone transmitter/receiver, D2B (A35/13) .

Should the telephone antenna no longer be capable of operating as the result of an accident the system automatically switches over to the Emergency call
backup antenna (A2/50) .

The voice link is established through the handsfree system microphone (B25) and the loudspeakers of the emergency call system (H4/46, H4/47).

The voice connection must exist for at least 30 seconds. If it is interrupted during this time, the call connection is repeated.

Regardless of the type of emergency call made, after the SMS has been sent, a voice connection is immediately established to the service center and the
user can speak with a service receptionist. If the service center cannot establish a connection to the vehicle, the emergency call system control unit
(N123/4) attempts to establish a connection from the vehicle to the service center. Both emergency call and the info services are provided free of charge
by Mercedes-Benz customer service.

The hands-free system microphone group (A67b1) is used for voice input. Voice output occurs exclusively over the left front emergency call speaker
(H4/46) and the right front emergency call speaker (H4/47). Both speakers are actuated discretely by the emergency call system control unit (N123/4).
