Connecting Rod Bearing: Service and Repair

NOTE:  Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

Inspection

1. Remove pistons. See: Piston/Service and Repair
2. Examining connecting rods for blue discoloration, cross scoring and notches

Conrod with blue discoloration (resulting from bearing damage), with cross scoring and notches must not be re-used

CAUTION:  When Replacing conrod, balance of conrod set must be within weight of 4 grams.

3. Bolt conrod bearing cap to connecting rod as follows:

NOTE:  Connecting rod and conrod bearing caps are marked together and fixed in position with two dowel sleeves.
