Remove engine trim panel or air cleaner

NOTE:
-

Model 220, 230.475: Unclip cover at face end of engine.

-

On model 129, 202.033/093, 170.465, 208.370/374/470, 210.074/274, 220, 230.475 the air cleaner is in integrated into the engine cover.

-

Remove engine trim panel or air cleaner by lifting vertically up and off the cylinder head covers.

Remove viscous fan (1) Except model 220, 208.365/465, 163.174, 230

NOTE:  Right-hand thread!

Remove stationary heater
-

Model 170 with stationary heater code 228.

Remove fan shroud (3) or electric fan.

NOTE:
-

On vehicles fitted with electric fan, first of all disconnect the connector of the electric fan.

-

On model 163 unscrew bolts at bottom of fan shroud.

Attach guard plate for radiator/condenser.

Remove poly V-belt of supercharger

Remove poly V-belt (2)

Remove cylinder head covers (6)

Dismount coolant lines (17, 18) at coolant pump

Dismount coolant line (16) at thermostat housing

Dismount refrigerant compressor (A9)

NOTE:  Place to the side with lines connected.

Remove generator (G2)

Dismount bracket (23) of automatic transmission oil lines.

MODEL 230.

Remove bottom part of oil pan (9)

Remove top part of oil pan (22)

Remove tensioning device of compressor poly V-belt.

Remove poly V-belt tensioning device (5)

Remove vibration damper (4)

Remove chain tensioner (14)

23.1 Remove oil filter housing
23.2 Remove oil filter housing (7) with oil-water heat exchanger
24 Detach power steering pump (11) with container.

NOTE:  Do not disconnect lines.

25.1 Detach guide pulley at timing case cover
25.2 Take off guide pulley (15) at coolant pump

NOTE:  Except model 230.474 Take off plastic cover of guide pulley.

Remove compressor

Remove air pump (20)

Separate electric cable from coolant thermostat.

Unscrew bolts (21) of cylinder head to timing case cover on right and left.

Remove screws of the timing case cover

NOTE:  Installation:  Apply sealant to bolts (arrows), observing the bolt diagram for the timing case cover.

Take off timing case cover

NOTE:  Installation:
-

The fastening threads for the coolant pump, the belt tensioning device and the power steering pump are not cut into a new timing case cover.

-

For this reason, use new self-tapping screws in combination with a new timing case cover for attaching coolant pump, belt tensioning device
and power steering pump. Pay attention to the torque when tightening bolts into threads which are not tapped.

Clean sealing surfaces, apply sealant only to specified surfaces in form of bead with height and width of 2.0 mm ± 0.5 mm. The sealing
