Steering Wheel: Removal and Replacement

Removing And Installing Steering Wheel

Move in or push in adjustable steering column fully

Position steering wheel (32) horizontal (front wheels in straight-ahead position)

Remove ignition key and allow steering lock to lock in position

Remove electronic ignition key

NOTE:  Electric steering column adjustment (ESC) locks

Disconnect battery ground cable

CAUTION:
-

Protect ground cable against unintentional ground contact

Notes for carrying out repair, body and welding work on vehicles with airbag units or emergency tensioning retractor units

Remove airbag unit on steering wheel

Unscrew countersunk screw (32c), steadying the steering wheel (32)

Installation: Replace countersunk screw

Remove steering wheel, passing through the cable of the airbag unit

NOTE:  Installation:Align recesses of the splines in the steering wheel with the markings on the steering shaft (arrow)

Check horn/airbag clock spring contact (A45) for damage
