The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) has the following tasks:

Integral telephone module for emergency call, service and telediagnosis

Independent position sensing

^

Acquiring and storing vehicle-specific data (e.g. circuit status)

Actuation of rod antenna (A28)

Actuation of the emergency call system left backup antenna (A2/54) and the emergency call system right backup antenna (A2/55) via the
emergency call system antenna splitter (A2/25) in the event of a rollover

^

Voice output via the left front emergency call speaker (H4/46) and the right front emergency call speaker (H4/47)

^

Input of crash data from the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) via a discrete line

^

Unlocking the vehicle in an emergency

^

Reading in the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3) and the MB Info and breakdown assistance button group (S93/6) via 2 separate and discrete lines

^

Reading in satellite data via the GPS antenna (A2/23)

^

Generating and providing a Short Message Service (SMS) message

^

Muting other audio signals (e.g. radio (A2))

The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) has its own microprocessor. A distinction is made between the 2 subareas of the telephone module and
the navigation module. All the important data for a Telematic Alarm Identification on Demand (emergency call system) (TELE AID) emergency call is
processed centrally by the emergency call system control unit (N123/4). It calculates the vehicle position with the aid of the installed navigation module
and generates the emergency call telegram in the form of a Short Message Service (SMS) message if an emergency call is made.

The crash data is received from the restraint systems control unit N2/7) via a serial interface.

The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) can be diagnosed using STAR DIAGNOSIS via the diagnosis Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN
Bus) (CAN) and the central gateway control unit (N93).
