Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

EXCEPT 1982

1.

Remove oil pump, if necessary, as described under ``Oil Pump, Replace.''

2.

Punch one hole into metal surface between seal and block using a sharp awl.

3.

Screw the threaded end of slide hammer, tool No. T77L-9533-B or equivalent, into seal and remove seal. Use care to avoid damaging oil seal
mating surface.

4.

Apply suitable sealer to seal and block mating surfaces.

5.

Position seal on tool No. T82L-6701-A or equivalent, Fig. 14, and install seal. Tighten bolts alternately to ensure proper seating of the seal.

6.

Install oil pump if previously removed.
