Heater Core: Service and Repair

1.

Disarm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.

2.

Remove floor console and instrument panel assembly.

3.

Drain cooling system.

4.

Disconnect and plug heater hoses from heater core extension tubes.

5.

Remove defroster hoses and plastic rivets.

6.

Remove main air duct connecting heater case to blower case or air conditioning unit, if equipped.

7.

Roll back carpet to gain access to lower duct and heater case mounting bolts, then disconnect lower duct from heater case.

8.

Remove cable ends from heater case, then disconnect heater case wiring harness.

9.

Remove heater case nuts and bolts, then remove heater case.

10.

Remove heater core cover to heater case attaching screws, then remove heater core cover.

11.

Remove tube brace attaching screws.

12.

Loosen clamps and remove extension tubes from heater core, then remove O-ring from outlet tube.

13.

Pull heater core outward, then remove any remaining extension tubes and grommets.

14.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque heater case upper, lower and center attaching nuts and bolts to 5-7 ft. lbs. Torque heater hose clamps to 3-4
ft. lbs.

15.

Reactivate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
