Ignition Switch: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove steering column trim shroud. For tilt column only, remove upper extension shroud.
3. Disconnect electrical connector from switch, Fig. 1.
4. Rotate ignition key to On (Run) position.
5. Drill out bolt heads securing switch to lock cylinder using a {1-8} inch twist drill. Remove bolts using an ``Easy Out'' or equivalent.
6. Disengage switch from the actuator pin.

INSTALLATION

1. Adjust switch by sliding the carrier to the switch On (Run) position.
2. Check to ensure that the ignition key lock cylinder is in the On (Run) position by rotating the key lock cylinder approximately 90 degrees from the

Lock position.

3. Install switch onto the actuator pin.
4. Secure the switch with new break-off head bolts. Tighten bolts until heads shear.
5. Connect electrical connector to switch.
6. Install steering column trim shroud. For tilt column only, install upper extension shroud.
7. Connect battery ground cable.
8. Check for proper operation.
