Repair (See Exhibit I - Figures 1 and 2)
Notes:
^ You must have authorization from your Ford Parts and Service Division District Office to perform the repairs shown below. Prior to
requesting the authorization, please be sure you have made the following determinations and are prepared to provide this information to the
District Office:
1.
The vehicle is involved in Owner Notification Program M24 (see list shown on page one of these instructions).
2.
The vehicle is within five years of the in-service date or 50,000 miles of operation, whichever comes first.
3.
The vehicle is equipped with a Ford-manufactured power rack and pinion steering gear assembly (see prefatory note under "Technical
Instructions" heading, and the inspection procedure shown above).

4.
The vehicle exhibits a temporary reduction in, power steering assist when first started cold, and full power steering assist is restored once the
vehicle is warmed-up.
5.
The vehicle is registered in one of the 17 eligible states including the northern section of New York.

Ford Car Shop Manual for complete information including detailed removal/installation instructions, torque specifications, precautions, and
service tool requirements.
For All Vehicles
1.
Remove the existing Ford-manufactured power rack and pinion steering gear assembly from the vehicle.
2.
Carefully remove and retain the bellows and the breather tube. Discard the clamps used to retain the bellows to the steering gear housing and the
tie rods.
3.
Remove and discard the roll pin from each tie rod ball joint socket. Remove and retain the tie rod from each end of the assembly. Use caution
