Idle Speed: Adjustments

FAST IDLE

1.

Place the transmission in NEUTRAL and set the parking brake.

2.

Start the engine and bring it to normal operating temperature.

3.

Disconnect and plug the vacuum hose at the EGR valve.

4.

Set the fast idle lever on the high step of the fast idle cam.

5.

Check the fast idle rpm. If it is not to specs, adjust the fast idle speed.

6.

Remove the plugs from the EGR valve and the idle pulldown motor and reconnect the vacuum lines to the proper devices.

CURB IDLE

1.

Place the transmission in NEUTRAL, set the parking brake, and place chocks in front of the rear wheels.

2.

Start the engine and bring it to normal operating temperature.

3.

Turn all accessories OFF.

4.

Check/adjust curb idle RPM. If adjustment is required, adjust the curb idle speed screw.

5.

Rev the engine momentarily, and recheck curb idle RPM. Readjust if necessary.
