Vehicles which have any of the above symptoms may have a terminal pin mating problem in the Throttle Position Sensor connector. In these cases the
terminal pins will butt against one another and cause pin pushout. This can cause an open or intermittent connection on the T.P. sensor circuit and could
generate EEC IV self-test service codes 23, 53, 63 or 73. Both the Throttle Position Sensor side and the harness side of connector should be checked
using the following procedures:
Throttle Position Sensor - Replace
1.
Disconnect the TP sensor from the wiring harness and inspect connector for terminal/pin damage.
2.
If the TP sensor terminals are damaged or pushed out; replace, don't repair the TP sensor. *EFI applications refer to the 1985 Emission/
Diagnostic Manual Section 3-74 for TP Sensor adjustment procedure.
3.
When replacing the TP sensor retorque the two (2) mounting screws to 1.2 - 1.8 N-M (11 to 16 in.lbs.).
EEC Harness Repair
1.
Remove the green silicone rubber waterproofing sleeve.

2.
Make a tool, using a straightened paper clip which has a "hook" bent into one end, with the hook being no more than 1/8" wide. (See Figure 16).
3.
Insert the paper clip tool into connector hooking edge of red "Y" shaped spacer and pull up to remove spacer.
4.
Reseat the terminal, by firmly pushing the terminal wire into the connector until firmly seated.
5.
Reinsert the red spacer into the connector using needle-nose pliers.
6.
Reinsert the green silicone rubber sleeve.
7.
Verify TP sensor circuit integrity by repeating the EEC IV "Quick Test".
