WINDNOISE - FRONT OF DOOR
FORD 1983-85 THUNDERBIRD
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1983-85 COUGAR, 1984-85 MARK VII
Two conditions that can contribute to windnoise at the front of the door on Thunderbird/Cougar and Mark vehicles are at the cutline seal and the door
weatherstrip. These conditions should both be checked when a windnoise concern is expressed by the customer.
Figure 3 - Cutline Seal and Door Weatherstrip
A.
Windnoise between the front door upper weatherstrip (cutline seal) and the windshield moulding on the Mark VII is caused by incorrect
positioning of the (5) plastic retainers into the vertical slots in the door frame. The seal is too low and does not adequately contact the windshield
moulding when the door is closed. This can be corrected by removing the existing seal and replacing it with a new one as shown in Figure 3.
