Brake Master Cylinder: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation

LESS POWER BRAKES

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Disconnect stop light switch wires, remove hairpin retainer and slide stop light switch off brake pedal pin just far enough to clear end of pin. Then
lift switch straight upward from pin.

3.

Slide master cylinder pushrod with nylon washers and bushings from brake pedal pin.

4.

Remove brake tubes from outlet ports of master cylinder.

5.

Remove locknuts that secure master cylinder to dash panel and lift cylinder forward and upward from vehicle.

6.

Reverse procedure to install.

WITH POWER BRAKES

1.

Disconnect brake lines from master cylinder.

2.

Disconnect brake warning lamp electrical connector, if equipped.

3.

On all models, remove master cylinder to power brake unit attaching nuts, then lift master cylinder from mounting studs.

4.

Reverse procedure to install.
