Brake Caliper: Testing and Inspection

EXTERNAL INSPECTION

1. Visually check disc brake caliper. If disc brake caliper housing is leaking, it should be serviced or replaced.
2. If a seal is leaking, disc brake caliper must be disassembled and new seals and dust boot installed.
3. If a caliper piston is seized in the bore, a new disc brake caliper is required.
4. Inspect caliper slide pins for ripped or torn boot seals. Lubricate the slide pins with silicone brake caliper grease and dielectric compound.

INTERNAL INSPECTION

CAUTION:  Do not submerge large end of disc brake caliper in solvent. This side contains a permanently lubricated sealed bearing assembly that
is not serviceable.

1. Clean all metal parts with isopropyl alcohol. Then clean out and dry grooves and passageways with compressed air. Make sure front disc brake

bore and component parts are clean and dry.

3. Check the cylinder bore and caliper piston for damage or excessive wear. Replace the caliper piston if it is pitted, scored, corroded or the plating is

worn off.

4. Inspect caliper slide pins for ripped or torn boot seals. Lubricate the slide pins with silicone brake caliper grease and dielectric compound.
