Brake Drum: Service and Repair
Hand Sanding
DESCRIPTION
Minor scores on a brake drum can be removed with sandpaper. Do not refinish brake drums to remove score marks. A highly polished drum
surface can cause brake lockup or noise. This polished condition should be removed with sandpaper. A brake drum that is out-of-round enough to
cause vehicle vibration or roughness when braking should be refinished.
SERVICE LIMITS
The maximum inside braking surface diameter is shown on each brake drum and also in Specifications. If the maximum inside braking surface
diameter shown on the brake drum is exceeded either by wear or refinishing, the brake drum must be replaced.
