DISASSEMBLY

1. Remove disc brake caliper assembly.

CAUTION:  Use layers of shop towels to cushion possible impact of the caliper piston against the front disc brake caliper iron when caliper
piston comes out of the piston bore. Do not use a screwdriver or similar tool to pry caliper piston out of the bore, as damage to the caliper piston
may result. If the caliper piston is seized and cannot be forced from the disc brake caliper tap lightly around the piston while applying air pressure.
Use care because the caliper piston can develop considerable force from pressure buildup. If the piston cannot be removed the caliper must be
replaced.

2. Disconnect disc brake caliper from hydraulic system and drain brake fluid from brake caliper.
3. Remove the caliper piston from bore using Rubber-Tipped Air Gun.
4. Remove the dust boot from the disc brake caliper assembly.
5. Remove the rubber piston seal from the caliper bore.
6. Clean all metal parts with isopropyl alcohol. Then clean out and dry grooves and passageways with compressed air. Make sure front disc brake

bore and component parts are clean and dry.

CAUTION:  Do not submerge large end of disc brake caliper in solvent. This side contains a permanently lubricated sealed bearing assembly that
is not serviceable.

7. Check the cylinder bore and caliper piston for damage or excessive wear. Replace the caliper piston if it is pitted, scored, corroded or the plating is

worn off.

8. Inspect caliper slide pins for ripped or torn boot seals. Lubricate the slide pins with silicone brake caliper grease and dielectric compound.

NOTE:  When assembling disc brake caliper, examine caliper piston for surface irregularities, pitting, scoring, wear or corrosion of the chrome coated
surface. Replace caliper piston if damaged. Be sure to clean foreign material from caliper bore and piston surfaces.

ASSEMBLY

1. Lubricate caliper bore, piston and seals with DOT-3 motor vehicle brake fluid before inserting piston into disc brake caliper.
2. Install new piston seal into bore and dust boot.
3. Start caliper piston into bore by hand to assure correct alignment.

Retracting Caliper

4. When installing caliper piston back into bore, use wood block or another flat stock, like an old brake shoe and lining assembly, between C-clamp

and caliper piston. Do not apply C-clamp directly to wheel cylinder piston surface. This can damage caliper piston. Make sure caliper piston is not
cocked.

5. Make sure dust boot is tight in boot groove on caliper piston and in disc brake caliper.
6. Install disc brake caliper assembly.
