Camshaft Bearing: Testing and Inspection
Oil Clearance

1. Remove all foreign material and oil from the camshaft journals and cylinder head bearing surfaces.
2. Set the camshafts into the cylinder head.
3. Position Plastigage material on top of the journals in the axial direction.

CAUTION: Follow proper procedures when tightening or loosening camshaft bearing journal caps.

4. Install cylinder head journal caps.
5. Loosen the cylinder head journal cap bolts.
6. Remove cylinder head journal caps.
7. Measure the camshaft oil clearance.

Standard:  0.025-0.076 mm (0.00098-0.00299 inch).
Limit:  0.121 mm (0.00476 inch).

8. If oil clearance is not correct, measure camshaft journal diameter and camshaft bearing diameter. Service as required.
