Headlamp Switch: Description and Operation
The headlamp switch:

is a three-position switch:
-
OFF
-
PARK
-
HEAD
-
includes an integral 20-amp circuit breaker
-
when in the PARK position (first detent) supplies power to:
-
parking lamps
-
rear lamps
-
rear side marker lamps
-
license plate lamps
-
instrument panel illumination
-
is provided ground through Circuit 57 (BK)
-
when in the HEAD position (all the way out) provides power to:
-
all of the lamps in the PARK position
-
the headlamp dimmer switch (part of multifunction switch)
-
also includes the dome lamp switch.
HEADLAMPS ON WARNING CHIME
The headlamps on warning chime:
-
sounds when the headlamp switch is in PARK or HEAD and the driver's door is open.
-
continues to sound until the headlamp switch is moved to OFF, the door is closed, or the ignition switch is switched to the RUN-START
position.

sounds if the ignition switch is switched from RUN-START to OFF while the headlamp switch is in PARK or HEAD and the driver door is
closed. Then after a 20 second delay, the chime will sound for 12 repetitions.
LIGHT SWITCH RHEOSTAT RESISTOR
The instrument panel lamp circuit is routed through a light switch rheostat resistor on the thumbwheel located next to headlamp switch.

Rotating the thumbwheel control knob varies illumination from dim to full-bright.

Rotating the thumbwheel past the detent at full-bright turns on the dome lamp.
