Side Air Bag: Service and Repair
Driver Side Air Bag Module
REMOVAL
1. Record USER 1 and USER 2 preset radio frequencies.
NOTE: If the driver side air bag module did not deploy in a collision, it may not have been needed. Complete all diagnosis before replacing the
driver side air bag module.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable. Wait one minute for backup power supply energy to be depleted.
WARNING: The electrical circuit necessary for system deployment is powered directly from the battery. To avoid accidental deployment
and possible personal injury, the battery ground cable must be disconnected prior to servicing or replacing any system components.
3. Remove two steering wheel back cover plugs. Remove two screw and washer assemblies retaining driver side air bag module to steering wheel.
4. Pull driver side air bag module away from steering wheel to access wiring connector. Disconnect air bag sliding contact connector from driver side
air bag wiring. Remove driver side air bag module.
WARNING: Place air bag module on bench with trim cover facing up to avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury.
INSTALLATION
1. Connect driver side air bag wiring to air bag sliding contact connector.
2. Position driver side air bag module to steering wheel and secure with two driver side air bag module to steering wheel screw and washer
assemblies. Tighten to 10-14 Nm (89-123 lb in). Install two steering wheel back cover plugs.
3. Reconnect battery ground cable.
4. Prove out air bag system.
5. Reprogram USER 1 and USER 2 preset radio frequencies and set clock.
