Parking Brake Control: Adjustments
NOTE: The following procedure is to be used only if a new parking brake control assembly is installed.
NOTE: All components of the parking brake system must be installed prior to the adjustment procedure. The parking brake control with automatic
tensioning is preset by means of a shipping clip. The following instructions must be followed in sequence and must be complete with vehicle weight
on axle.
1. Verify removal of shipping clip. (Take up reel will apply tension to the system.)
2. Function parking brake control by depressing pedal to 8th notch.
3. "PUSH" parking brake control pedal to release.
4. Check as follows:
Apply the parking brake with a FULL STROKE (9th or 10th notch). The parking brake control must hold in the APPLIED position.
Release parking brake:
a. Shift vehicle into FORWARD gear with engine RUNNING. Control must release.
b. Apply parking brake with a FULL STROKE (9th or 10th notch).
c. Manually release parking brake with the "PUSH" to release feature.
CAUTION: With the control in OFF position, the rear brakes must not drag. Check for movement of the rear cables from their conduits when
the intermediate cable is deflected with a force of 45-65 N (10-15 lbs).
