Ball Joint: Service and Repair
Ball Joint, Lower
Upper Ball Joint
1.
Raise and support front of vehicle. Remove wheel assembly.
2.
Position jack below lower control arm at the ball joint.
3.
Remove retaining nut and punch bolt from upper ball joint stud.
4.
Mark position of alignment cams.
5.
Remove ball joint retaining nuts.
6.
Remove ball joint and spread slot with pry bar to separate ball joint stud from spindle.
7.
Reverse procedure to install. Tighten to specifications.
Lower Ball Joint
The lower ball joint must be replaced as an assembly, with the lower control arm.
