Dealers encountering this condition in vehicles built prior to October 15, 1983 should replace the hinge release rod D9AZ-74431E58-A. Refer to Figure
11 and the 1984 Car Shop Manual, Section 44-26-1 for removal and installation instructions. Note alignment and adjustment of the tailgate procedures
are published in TSB 83-19-1 dated September 20, 1983.
