Catalytic Converter
Removal
1.
Raise vehicle. Remove air tube and check valve.
2.
Remove the bolts attaching the Y-pipe to the converter inlet flange.
3.
Remove the nuts attaching the muffler inlet pipe to the converter outlet flange.
4.
Separate the catalytic converter inlet and outlet flange connections.
5.
Remove the converter.
6.
Replace any damaged parts.
Installation
NOTE:
Transfer any heat shields to new catalyst.
1.
Insert converter hanger rod into hanger bracket. Position the catalytic converter to the Y-pipe using a new gasket and install the retaining bolts. Do
not tighten the bolts.
2.
Position the muffler inlet flange to the converter outlet flange and install the retaining nuts. Do not tighten the nuts.
3.
Align the exhaust system.
4.
With the exhaust system aligned:
a. Tighten the Y-pipe to converter inlet flange retaining bolts to 27-41 N-m (20-30 Lb.Ft.).
b. Tighten the muffler inlet pipe to converter outlet flange retaining nuts to 27-41 N-m (20-30 Lb.Ft.).
5.
Install the new air tube and check valve.
6.
Check the system for leaks and lower the vehicle.
