CALIBRATIONS:

All with EEC IV

WARNING:This modification is authorized only for the listed engines. Performing this modification on other engine

calibrations is unauthorized and could create liability under applicable federal or local laws.

False service codes be the result of "transient" signals that occur during operation of the ignition switch on vehicles with
certain electronic control assemblies. When confirmed as false, these codes may be ignored.

The vehicle may or may not have a drive concern. Continuous Memory code string that contain conflicting codes (for example
51 and 61) and/or undefined codes are an indicator of false codes.

If On-Demand (Hard Fault) service codes accompany the Continuous Memory codes, the hard faults must be repaired and
cleared before proceeding (record all codes). Clear the memory if no hard fault was detected or a repair was made.

1.

Attempt to generate false codes by cycling the ignition switch at lease 10 times from the Key-Off to the Key-Run position.
(Do not crank the engine).

2.

Repeat the Key-On/Engine-Off Self Test. If a string of service codes appear in Continuous Memory (they may be different
this time), the service codes

are false and they may be ignored. Do not replace the ECA.

3.

If Continuous Memory codes do not appear, repeat the 10-cycle test as above followed by the KeyOn/Engine-Off Self
Test.

4.

If Continuous Memory codes are not present, repeat the test for a third time.

5.

If Continuous Memory codes still do not appear, the originally recorded memory codes are assumed to be correct, and the
appropriate Shop Manual diagnostics must be performed.

ECA's susceptible to this condition can be identified as 

follows:

Tear Tag Color: Blue -Vehicle Production: All 1984 Model Year Production -Visual Appearance: Die Case base plate
instead of sheet metal.

NOTE: Suspect ECA's must meet all of the above characteristics.
