Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming: Service and Repair

NOTE:  Prior to disconnecting battery, record user pre-set radio frequencies.

DISARMING

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Wait one minute for back-up power supply to deplete.
3. Remove four bolt and washer assemblies retaining driver's air bag assembly to steering wheel.
4. Disconnect driver's air bag module connector.
5. Connect Rotunda Air Bag Simulator 105-00010, or equivalent, to vehicle air bag wiring harness at top of steering column.
6. To remove passenger's air bag, proceed as follows:

a. Remove instrument panel upper molding by disengaging snap-in tabs.
b. Open glove compartment, press sides inward and lower glove compartment to floor.
c. Working through glove compartment opening, remove two front air bag module screws.
d. Remove two rear air bag module retaining screws, then disconnect electrical connector and remove air bag module.

7. Attach a second air bag simulator to harness side of passenger's air bag module connector.
8. Connect battery ground cable.

ARMING

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Wait one minute for back-up power supply to deplete.
3. Remove air bag simulator from harness on top of steering column.
4. Connect driver's air bag connector.
5. Position driver's air bag on steering wheel and secure with four nut and washer assemblies.
6. Proceed as follows for passenger's air bag:

a. Remove air bag simulator from vehicle harness connector.
b. Connect electrical connector to air bag module, then position air bag module in instrument panel.
c. Install two upper, then two lower air bag module retaining screws. Snap instrument panel upper molding into place.

6. Connect battery ground cable.
7. Place ignition switch in RUN position and note air bag warning lamp operation. Indicator lamp should illuminate for approximately six seconds,

then turn OFF.
