A)

Install the special tool by positioning the post into the plastic stem coming out of the bottom of the TOC bypass valve and placing the flat
edge toward the condenser mount. Hold the tool in place with one hand. See Figure 1.

B)

Using large adjustable pliers (with the upper jaw on top of the valve and the lower jaw below the special tool) try compressing the valve
using nothing more than a moderate amount of pressure. If the valve is good, the valve will easily compress under this pressure. Using
extreme force to try to get the valve to compress is unnecessary. See Figure 2.
