Since February 1983, Escort and Lynx vehicles have been built with a new master cylinder and power booster.
The new master cylinder (Part No. E3FZ-2140-A) has a plastic reservoir on top of the cylinder. See TSB 83-5A, dated 3/8/83 for this and other upgraded
components for these vehicles. The previous, all-metal cylinder has a two-chamber reservoir integral with the cylinder and a metal cap.
When replacing the booster on a vehicle with the new master cylinder, use booster Part No. E3FZ-2005-A. The current service parts catalog incorrectly
shows that the previous booster (Part No. E2FZ-2005-A) be used. Although similar in appearance, this previous booster will not mount properly with the
new master cylinder and cannot be installed on the vehicle.
The next issue of the service parts catalog, scheduled for September 1983, will show the new booster part number to be used on vehicles built since
February 1983.
