When installing engine component kit E3FZ-19B969-A on 1.6L Escort/Lynx, EXP/LN7, special attention must be given when tensioning the 5K
v-ribbed belt. The following chart should be referred to when installing the belt. A belt tensioning gage should be used during installation to assure
proper tensioning.
Overtensioning can lead to crankshaft pulley damage; undertensioning can cause belt slippage and improper operation of the alternator and A/C
compressor.
New Belt Installation Used Belt Reset Limits
150-190 Lbs.
140-160 Lbs.

All tensions are for cold engines (not run within 3 hours); for hot engines add 20 lbs.

New belt - prior to any engine rotation.

Used belt - more than 10 minutes operation.
Belt tensioning is important in all dealer-installed A/C systems for proper functioning. A belt tensioning gage should be used in all applications and the
respective Shop Manuals should be referred to for the correct belt specification.
