Engine Coolant - Proper Service Fill Procedure

ENGINE COOLANT (1.6L) -PROPER SERVICE FILL PROCEDURE

This article is to emphasize the importance in providing a complete system coolant fill on the subject vehicles by adding .5 liters (1.1 pints) of water to
the coolant recovery reservoir as outlined in steps 5, 6, and 7 of the fill procedure below. The coolant fill procedure is different from the procedure used
on other vehicles in that water is added to the recovery bottle which later transfers to the radiator after the engine has cooled. This is necessary in order
to achieve a complete fill of the cooling system.

1.

With the engine "OFF" and cool, place the heater temperature control at maximum "WARM" posi- 

tion. Add 3 liters (3.2 qts.) of E2FZ-19545-A or Prestone II coolant concentrate to the radiator.

2.

Reinstall the radiator cap to the pressure relief position by installing the cap to the fully installed position and then backing off to the first stop.

3.

Start and idle the engine until the upper radiator hose is warm.

4.

Immediate shut off the engine. Carefully remove the radiator cap and add water until the radiator is full. Reinstall the radiator cap securely.

IMPORTANT!

Remove the hose from the coolant recovery reservoir and add .5 liters (1.1 pints) water to the reservoir through the hose opening.

Install the hose into the coolant reservoir in a fully inserted position as indicated by the white paint mark (Figure 19).

NOTE:

Be sure that the hose attachment at the radiator is leak-proof and secure.

Upon subsequent engine operation to normal operating temperatures, coolant will normally be in the

recovery reservoir and later transfer to the radiator after the engine has cooled.

8.

Check the coolant level in radiator at least once a month, but only when the engine is cool. Fill to the specified level with a 50/50 mixture of
coolant concentrate and water when required.

NOTE:

If anti-freeze protection is not maintained at 0~ F or below, engine corrosion and overheating may result.
