Engine - Misfire During Low Speed Driving
ENGINE MISS - 1.9L ENGINE - CARBURETOR VERSION WITH MECHANICAL DISTRIBUTOR ONLY

ISSUE:
Engine misfire at idle or during low speed driving, (1-10 MPH/2-16 km/H) may be caused by the tension of the distributor centrifugal
advance primary spring. A spring without enough tension may cause too much distributor centrifugal spark advance.
ACTION:
Install a new distributor centrifugal advance primary spring that has more tension. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
1.
Remove the distributor cap and rotor.
2.
Remove the "yellow" distributor centrifugal advance primary spring.
3.
Install the new "brown with a white stripe" distributor centrifugal primary spring, (E8FZ-12192-A).
NOTE:
DO NOT BEND THE SPRING MOUNTING TABS OR OVERSTRETCH THE SPRING.
4.
Reinstall the rotor and distributor cap.
5.
Make sure the timing belt is set to the proper tension. If not reset it. Refer to the 1986 Car Shop Manual, Volume E, Section 21-27 for service
details.
6.
If the engine misfire is still present after performing Steps 1 through 5, install a new distributor assembly, (E6FZ-12127-C).
NOTE:
THE DISTRIBUTOR SHOULD HAVE A "BLACK" DOT ON THE BOWL.
