Vehicles with a 60 amp alternator and air conditioning may exhibit poor charging during extremely hot weather with a number of electrical accessories
on. This may occur because the electrical load exceeds the alternator output capability and causes a low state of battery charge. To correct this, install a
75 amp alternator using the following diagnostic service procedure:

1.

Check the electrical system for loose battery connections or battery draw with the key off. Refer to Section 31-01-1 of the 1986 Escort/Lynx/EXP
Shop Manual. Proceed to Step 2 only if the electrical system is functioning properly.

2.

Install a 75 amp alternator (E6DZ-10346-D). Refer to Section 31-17-7 of the 1986 Escort/Lynx/EXP Shop Manual.
