Aftermarket equipment exists which can alter blackwall tires by grinding and painting a whitewall. This practice is not recommended. When first
applied, the cosmetic treatment may have the same appearance as RPO whitewall tires. However, with age, the paint can crack and peel, grossly
deteriorating the tire's appearance. This can lead a customer to become very disappointed with the quality of the product they have purchased.
In addition to the poor appearance, the cosmetic treatment can be detrimental to the tire since it is common practice to grind the tire sidewall before
applying the whitewall paint. Tire manufacturers consider the tire warranty void due to tampering and potential damage.
