Rear Knuckle Alignment Link: Service and Repair
Tie Rod End Replacement
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Scribe a reference mark on tie rod front bracket at bolt head center line for use during reassembly.
3. Remove nut, washer and insulators attaching tie rod to spindle.
4. Remove nut and bolt attaching tie rod to body bracket, then the tie rod.
NOTE: It may be necessary to pry front bracket sheet metal apart slightly to remove tie rod from body.
5. Place a new dished washer over tie rod end with flange toward middle of rod.
6. Install tie rod through spindle bushings and place eye of rod into body bracket. Secure rod to bracket using a new nut and bolt. Do not tighten.
7. Place another dished washer over end of rod with flange toward end of rod, then install a new nut and torque to 65-75 ft lb.
8. Using suitable jack, raise lower control arm to curb height.
9. Align center of bolt head with reference mark on body bracket, then torque tie rod front bolt to 90-100 ft lb. This bolt must be installed with head
inboard on vehicle.
10. Lower vehicle to ground.
